Water is Your Best Friend

Water, water, Everywhere.
Now all we need to do is drink.

In a recent article I wrote that we need to avoid drinking calorie-filled beverages and just go for water. Now let’s take it a step further…

Water is so crucial to our life and health. Whether you are sitting in an office cube or working out or waking up in the morning, a glass of water should be your go-to. Your body is in large part made up of water; water should be our best friend. After all you have so much in common! It is so painfully obvious, but so unappreciated. So talked about, but so little action. The majority of us don’t appreciate it, much less drink it in the quantities we should.

So lets get started on the convincing… Water helps and promotes so many crucial positive & healthy bodily functions like..

Benefits of Drinking Water for Weight Loss & Overall Health

Digestion: water is essential for this, and helps with nutrient processing & dispersement.

Cognition & brain function!

Metabolism & Fat Burning. And who doesn’t want that?!

Building off those.. Water also Helps You Diet.  Drinking water before, during, and after meals helps you to realize when you are full and gives your brain time to process that sensation and send that “full” feeling out so you stop eating.

It also Cleanses your Palate. Not just quickly in the short term, but also in the long term. Most people don’t realize this, but YOU teach your taste buds how to function. If you are drinking other fluids, even sugar free or diet drinks you are teaching yourself to crave that sugary sweet taste (hence the random late night cravings). Rather, drinking pure water cleanses your palate in the long term as well and teaches your body to crave hydration and suppresses those overactive taste buds craving salty or sweet. Eat to live, don’t live to eat. Water can help you do that.

Liver Function. Water cleanes toxins by allowing your liver to better process what you put in your body (good & bad) and allows your body to rid itself of the toxins you consume in the quickest way possible rather than letting them linger in your precious one-of-a-kind self!

Youthful, Beautiful, Hydrated Skin. Who doesn’t want that? Enough said.

Reduces Bloating. Now most people think the opposite; that water causes bloating. But the reverse is actually true is you are consistently hydrated. If you don’t drink enough water on a consistent basis, then your body holds on to all the water you do drink when you are in a dehydrated state. Think of a camel. The camel stores all the water in the humps for the long dry spell of the desert, but loses the humps when it is in a more temperate climate because they are no longer necessary. We are like the camel in that If we are consistently drinking water in generous portions constantly (day in and day out) eventually (maybe a couple days, or a week) your body realizes that it doesn’t need to hold on to all the water because there is a constant supply. Hence water actually reduces bloating because you are never dehydrated (and drinking water when you are dehydrated DOES cause bloating). So stick it out, drink it up, and you will learn to love it even more!

And not to mention, last but certainly not least, and certainly my favorite (but one of the least talked about) REGULARITY! Drinking water promotes regularity and combats constipation like no other.

Think of it like a river. If there is dry soil, as soon as it rains, the water has to soak into all the soil before it makes it to the river (taking much longer to get to the river). But, If the soil was moist then it would simply run off to the river immediately due to the saturated top soil (much faster than before). Your body is very similar. You need that “flowing river” to be healthy & regular.

So get off your computer and go get a bottle of water! You’ll be glad you did.
